You need a specific training program for the beep test
If you are training for the beep test its likely that you are needing to achieve a score for passing selection criteria for a sporting team or a job.
The test will give a true indication of your current fitness level by testing your VO2 maximum.
In order to improve upon your beep test score, you need to do specific training.
The best way to explain this would be to give you an analogy of a sprinter training. If you were a sprinter then your training would be specific to explosive short distance training. For example, you wouldn’t go out on a 15 km run a couple of times a week.
The beep test is no different, you need to train your body and build your fitness based on the outcome you desire, which is to improve the level you can get to.
No matter what your fitness level, the test does not discriminate as everybody will end up at the same point and that is the maximum of your cardio vascular ability (unless you are a freak of nature like Lance Armstrong or David Beckham who I believe have both been able to complete the test).
So the question is, what type of training do you need to do?
Having trained hundereds of people to successfully pass the fitness tests for the Victoria Police in Australia, we have written a specific beep test training program using the same methods that have worked for our clients. This program is now available via our website.
